Optimizing creativity to drive innovation

Creativity is an organic process that must be experimented with and set free, even when misunderstood and scary. Exploring the unknown will invoke an element of fear. Explore anyway. Without risk and failure there is neither growth nor innovation. Evaluate the risk/reward ration to optimize the odds of success.

At the onset of the journey during the ideation process, you will be tempted to negate ideas based on the challenges you think are there. You will be tempted to politely say, great idea… BUT. Resist the reflex to say “no.”

One seemingly wrong or bad idea becomes a good idea, changes into a great idea, transforms into the right idea. The process repeats at each idea. It’s a question of allowing an original idea to breathe and grow before murdering it at its conception.

Nothing surpasses the beauty and elegance of a bad idea.
— Craig Reucassel

Embrace all ideas no matter how crazy, how left of center, bad, and how inappropriate they might appear. Collect them ALL. Incubate them in a place that is exposed to discussion, consideration, re-evaluation, exploration, experimentation and collaboration.

No idea is a bad idea! If you think it’s a bad idea, challenge yourself to turn into a good idea. One seemingly wrong or bad idea becomes a good idea, changes into a great idea, transforms into the right idea. Give it water, food and time. It might be relevant 10 years from now.

An idea should never be drowned, buried or lost, rather, simply stored away until its time to resuscitate it from the shadows of its perceived shame.
